9A Worship - Peter’s Confession, Commission & Correction

Greetings Friends in Christ!
Oh boy, this is a spicy text we’re talking about today. Not only does Peter get Jesus right, he also fundamentally misunderstands his own tradition in ways I think we see Christianity misunderstood in our time as well. Peter gives the confession that establishes the foundation of the church: that Jesus is the Messiah. Then he tells Jesus he can’t go to die at the hands of the nations… kind of defeats the whole purpose of the Messiah thing.
Peter is the most right and the most wrong, even confusing the mission of God with the mission of Satan. The question for us is who do we say Jesus is? Do we get him right? How are we tempted to get him wrong today?
