9A Worship - Peter Sees The Glory

Greetings Friends in Christ!

This week we get to see Peter and his friends go up on a mountain with Jesus and see him with the hall of fame of the Old Testament: Moses and Elijah. The Transfiguration is one of those events that, if we only look at it in isolation it seems baffling. But when we understand it in the big picture, it makes sense. Peter and the disciples with him don’t quite get the big picture. The question we’ll want to ask ourselves is... do we? It’s not academic. Having a grasp of the big picture of Jesus’s gospel as part of the whole of Scripture changes everything about what we do. Peter will miss it and misbehave. He will make a tent to dwell with glory, but at the crucifixion, he’ll deny Jesus and run away. Do we want the glory without the cross?
