11A Worship - Peter Sees Jesus Enthroned
Greetings Friends in Christ!
One of the more neglected aspects of the gospel, yet an essential part, is the ascension. The ascension is when Jesus goes to sit at the right hand of the Father. If our gospel is that Jesus does everything and we just receive, then the ascension doesn’t make sense. The disciples, like Peter, misunderstood this too. They wanted Jesus to restore the kingdom of God to Israel. Instead, Jesus commissioned them to bear witness to the kingdom. The ascension is essential to the gospel because in the gospels it’s the confirmation that Jesus is who he says he is. Jesus, the Son of Man, receives authority from the Ancient of Days (Dan 7:13-14), and then uses that authority to commission his followers with his power.
