Pass The Baton

Last week we saw that we each have a run marked out for us, and that we are to run with our eyes on the finish line. We are to seek the things above, not the things below. We also saw that in order to run our race, we had to recognize that we cannot, nor should not, run this race alone. We have a "cloud of witnesses" who have gone before us, but we have a "cloud of witness" who are in this race with us, cheering us on, spurring us on to love and good deeds, holding us accountable, praying for us, and at times carrying us down the track, if not over the finish line.

This week, it's about us passing on the baton to the next generation. Paul made sure that someone like Timothy was being spurred on, not just to run the race, but to take leadership in training up those behind him. Paul was not just focused on those who would be carrying the baton after him, but that others would receive the baton for generations to come. He told Timothy: "And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others." 2 Timothy 2.2
