The Agony of the Cross

As we finish up with Hebrews 12.1-3 we will see what it means to "consider" Jesus who endured suffering and shame of the cross. As we've seen the past two weeks, the race that we are running is to be done with our eyes fixed on the finish line and on the next generation. This week we need to see that we need to ultimately fix our eyes on Jesus, to understand who He was and what He did on our behalf. As we look to Jesus, we need to consider the agony of the cross.

To the world the cross may be an image of defeat. But, as we fix our eyes on Jesus, we know that the cross is the sign of victory. Jesus was not defeated on the cross. Sin was defeated on the cross. Death was defeated on the cross. We know that to be true because of the Resurrection. As we fix our eyes on Jesus, we are reminded of the agony of the cross. But, as we fix our eyes on the cross, we are reminded of the victory that is ours as we run the race that is set before us.
