The Value of a Trusted Friend
In the aftermath of David’s defeat of Goliath, King Saul becomes jealous and threatened because the Israelites are singing David’s praises. Saul can see the writing on the wall – everything David does succeeds because God is with him. At times, King Saul supports David, yet at other times, he tries to kill him. In direct opposition, Saul’s son, Jonathan (and heir to the throne) befriends young David and pledges sacrificial and devoted friendship to him. Jonathan remained a true and loyal friend to David during his many conflicts with King Saul. Jonathan’s character gives us an excellent example of what it means to be a trusted friend. Today we will look at the qualities of being a true friend to those we love and care about.
