pastoral thoughts on re-entry

let us all pay attention to what God is saying through the Word, through prayer, by the Holy Spirit, in conversations with other believers

June 11, 2020

Dear Grace of Christ Family,

I cannot tell you enough about how grateful I am that God, in His Providence, led me to Grace of Christ.  I cannot tell you enough how blessed I am by the people God is using to encourage me and assist me during these turbulent times.  I cannot tell you enough how much God is on the move in our church and in our city.  This past week, during our Prayer Gathering, God once again showed up and began to reveal His plans.  Pastors Preston and Becky Jones from Redeemed City Church here in Yakima joined me, along with Jake and Carla Kupp, as we began seeking God for healing and unity in our country, city and Churches.  It was the first of many such times of prayer and conversations to help build bridges between our churches.  God is indeed bringing beauty out of ashes.

As for the latest at Grace of Christ, I think you will be pleased to see that we are going to be recording parts of the at home worship service in the Sanctuary.  As we head into the fourth month of quarantine, we are making strides towards eventually gathering together as a church.  Hopefully, as you watch this weekend’s worship service on line, you will feel “at home” by seeing the inside of the Sanctuary from your living room.

Going forward, we are also making plans to have two outdoor worship services in the summer.  The first date that we have set is July 11th, 6:30pm on the South lawn.  First, it’s a Saturday evening.  That way we can still record it and upload the service for those who will be watching online Sunday morning.  Second, it’s in the evening.  That way we avoid the heat, and may perhaps encourage people to come a bit early and have a picnic on the lawn.  There are many details to work out, including how to have people reserve a spot.  We can only have up to 100 attendees.  So, we will let you know how to reserve your “seat”.

In addition to that, the ReLaunch Team is now branching out into our four Pillars: Worship, Community, Spiritual Formation, and Missions.  Those teams will be discussing and praying about the current and future vision for Grace of Christ, beyond just our reentering the facilities.  God is already beginning to shape His plans for a future and a hope.  We will continue to keep you posted.

Continue to pray for Grace of Christ, for the staff, Elders, Deacons and Leaders.  Continue to pray for those who are isolated during this time, and for those who are the most vulnerable.  Pray for our first responders at the hospital, care facilities, and throughout our city.  Pray for the racial tension that is ongoing throughout our country.  Pray for our country’s leaders, that they would seek the wisdom of God during these very difficult times.

Because of Christ, and in His Grace,
Pastor Bill
