New Series - Winds of change

grace alive - July 2020

“Thus says the Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live.” Ezekiel 37.5
Dear Grace of Christ Family,

Since we are living in uncertain times, I thought I’d throw you off track even more.  I typically start a new sermon series at the beginning of a month.  Well, I’m going to start a new series this Sunday, July 26.  Take a deep breath. It’s all going to be ok.

A few weeks ago we were making plans to reenter the Sanctuary for worship.  We were told that we could do so with a limited number of participants.  Those plans had to be put on hold.  We were told that churches still needed to stay closed for indoor Worship services.  So, since the pause button was pushed on our reentering plans, I thought we’d take a pause with Nehemiah.  We are going to back, before Nehemiah and after Habakkuk, to look at Ezekiel 37.  As God shows Ezekiel the Valley of Dry Bones, the hope and promise is revealed for the Israelites.  God was going to breathe life into them, and they “shall live”.

As we live in what you might call “between the now and the not yet”, the breath of God, the winds of the Holy Spirit, the ever present transforming life of Jesus Christ that has been given to us, will continue to move us into the good and perfect will of God.  The “Winds of Change” are evident even now.  God is breathing new life into us, even as He is rearranging the landscape.  The winds may seem fierce at times.  The Holy Spirit may need to blow powerfully in order to cleanse us, and to release our grip on those things we once held dear that will no longer satisfy or suffice in the future.  What we once knew, may look different when we eventually reenter together for Worship.  There will be a shift in the atmosphere as we experience what it means Love Well with DROPS of Grace in real and tangible ways that may never have come about if not for this pandemic.  This time may seem as though we are on “pause”, but God is still at work.

Take a deep breath.  Receive the fullness of the presence of God into your heart, soul, mind and body.  Invite the Holy Spirit to do the work of the Father, cleansing and purging us of anything that would prevent us from walking in and experiencing the abundant life of Christ.  Ask God to breathe life into our church, that we might be revived as we follow the commands of Christ to Love God and Love Others in new ways, with new passion, and with a new sense of urgency.  Then, ask God to use us to breathe life into the Yakima Valley, so that the dead would rise, and that all people would know that God is Lord.

Because of Christ, and in His Grace,
Pastor Bill
